Don’t let convention stifle your creativity
Creative inspiration can come in many forms, from many places.
I wanted to highlight a short animation which I stumbled across when mindlessly trawling social media on my daily commute.
The short tells the story of office worker Copi and his inquisitive son Paste. The film deals with the dilemma faced by Copi when his son wishes to go against convention, and the affect his decisions have on both himself and Paste.
It’s a beautiful story, which may make some of you cry. It also acts as a wonderful piece of encouragement to embrace our creative desires even if society is telling us not to.
While we’re on the topic of creativity, here are a few more recommendations to get those juices flowing.
Helvetica - A documentary about typography, graphic design, and global visual culture.
Objectified - A feature-length documentary from the director of Helvetica. The film explores our relationship with manufactured objects and the people who design them.
Abstract - The Art of Design – A documentary series from Netflix about creativity and the designers influencing the world we live in. There are eight standalone episodes, meaning you can select those of most interest, but they are all worth your time.
